Bénédicte Muller is a year 4 illustration student at the Strasbourg ESAD’s Communication department. She’s the first student this year (there can only be one number one) to benefit from the website management tool that I developed, and which I called Webfolio. Her website is a simple and straightforward web portfolio showcasing her works of illustration. She’s the first person in her class with her website online, as about 15 other friends of hers in her class are now working toward the same goal of uploading their online portfolio. It is for me a real pleasure to see this first website completed and online and I’m looking forward to seeing whether my webfolio tool proves easy to handle to update her website. 
Bénédicte’s first idea for her website included very different and variable layouts from one screen to another, which made it a hardly feasable project for the template-driven and consistence required by MySql and Php. At our second meeting, her project was a lot lighter and she’d taken into consideration the issues related to a CMS-powered website. On the third, the project was so simplified and consistent that it took us a mere 6 or 7 hours to complete it.

Bénédicte Muller est une étudiante en 4ème année d’illustration, dans l’Option Communication de l’ESAD de Strasbourg. Elle est la première cette année (il ne peut y avoir qu’un numéro un) à bénéficier de l’outil de gestion de sites web que j’ai développé et que j’ai surnommé Webfolio. Son site est un portfolio web simple et qui va droit au but avec ses travaux d’illustrations mis en avant. Elle est la première d’une classe d’une quinzaine de personnes à avoir son site en ligne. Je suis très content de ce premier site complété et online et j’attends de voir avec impatience si l’outil Webfolio se révèle simple à utiliser et permet facilement de mettre à jour le site. 
Bénédicte est d’abord venue avec un projet très difficilement réalisable en PHP et MySql, tant les affichages différaient d’un écran à l’autre, ce qui rendait très compliquée la systématisation nécessaire à la présence d’une base de données et d’un outil dynamique. Au second rendez-vous, son projet était revu et devenait tout à fait faisable, au troisième il était encore simplifié ce qui a permis un développement en 6 ou 7 heures en tout.

Okay, so basically, it’s the same idea as Benedicte’s, i.e a simple webfolio, that stands for a first website, with an administration tool (a “back office” for webgeeks) to easily update the website and add projects. New images just need to be dropped in the automatically created folder corresponding to the new project and boom… they’re online.

Bon, en fait, je n’ai pas beaucoup plus à dire que pour le site de Bénédicte. Il s’agit également d’un webfolio simple, en tant que premier site, accompagné d’un outil de gestion du site (un “back office” pour nous autres webmonkeys) pour permettre une mise à jour et un ajout faciles de nouveaux projets. Les nouvelles images doivent simplement être déposées par FTP dans le nouveau dossier automatiquement créé depuis l’interface et zou galinette, c’est en ligne. 

Romain Hémeray

Romain Hemeray, étudiant en année 3 scénographie, a la particularité d’être le premier étudiant à avoir fait tous ses modèles lui-même avec Dreamweaver, y compris les CSS, et d’être venu avec un projet plutôt ambitieux, puisque son site, bien qu’il s’agisse d’un webfolio, comporte plus de 1000 media, videos et images ! Afin d’intégrer autant de media rapidement, Romain a brillamment préparé un fichier excel correspondant aux champs de la base de données comprenant tous ses medias, ce qui nous a permis de tout importer d’un coup. Webfolio est donc un outil de gestion de site qui permet de voir large et d’insérer énormément de contenu ! L’outil d’administration dont il dispose est le même que pour celui des étudiants d’illustration, enrichi de fonctions personnalisées qui lui permettent de décider de mettre en ligne ou non un projet, ainsi que d’ajouter directement les informations relatives aux images et videos. Travailler avec lui a été un plaisir dans la mesure où Romain intègre tout super vite, anticipe et apprend rapidement en essayant lui-même. Des projets en apparence plutôt costauds ne lui posent aucun problème et je lui souhaite que son enthousiasme et sa méthodologie de travail lui apportent le même succès pour ses réalisations à venir. Un projet ambitieux donc pour lequel Romain a choisi un hébergement pro chez OVH avec son nom de domaine personnel, bref, la classe !

Working with Romain Hemeray, a year 3 Scenography student, was particularly interesting since he was the first student to integrate his graphic templates himself directly with Dreamweaver, CSS included, and he was the first one to show up with an ambitious project containing over a thousand media, images & videos! He had to prepare an excel spreadsheet with columns matching the database fields, a task he performed brilliantly, in order to be able to place so many media in the website by a single import. For me, it’s nice to know that Webfolio is a tool capable of dealing with so much content easily! His administration tool is no different from the one used for illustration students, except for a few added functionalities enabling him to decide whether a project is online or offline, and to insert information relative to his media, like the size of his videos or their legends to be automatically displayed in the website. Working with him was a pleasure because Romain understands everything superfast, even anticipates, he likes to learn by trying things himself and doesn’t seem to mind throwing himself into an apparently huge project, and brings it to completion! I wish him good luck for his future projects and don’t doubt a minute his future endeavors will be successful. For this ambitious project, Romain has chosen a pro hosting solution (OVH) and his personal domain name, in short, it rocks!
