And the second website of an Illustration Year 4 student is…
Fabienne Wagenaar’s!
Okay, so basically, it’s the same idea as Benedicte’s, i.e a simple webfolio, that stands for a first website, with an administration tool (a “back office” for webgeeks) to easily update the website and add projects. New images just need to be dropped in the automatically created folder corresponding to the new project and boom… they’re online. Fabienne leaves soon for an academic exchange abroad and we were on sort of a rush to complete the website in time. It might’ve been helpful to have one or two more sessions to really fix a few details and improve the website a little bit, as there always some things we don’t really think about until it’s online and it’s in our browser in front of us. We jotted down a few ideas for improvements that’ll have to wait for next academic year.
Technically, there wasn’t any real issue, we ran into a little visual probel caused by an iframe that appeared as a rather annoying white rectangle before actually being loaded. We found a fix on a forum like 5 seconds after having googled it up, that sets the CSS visibility rule to hidden for starters, and once it’s loaded displays it. Pretty neat trick indeed, especially since it does exactly what we wanted. That’s the cool thing with the Internet as troubleshooting resource, someone MUST have had the same problem as you, he has found the answer to that problem and has posted it to a forum!

Bon, en fait, je n’ai pas beaucoup plus à dire que pour le site de Bénédicte. Il s’agit également d’un webfolio simple, en tant que premier site, accompagné d’un outil de gestion du site (un “back office” pour nous autres webmonkeys) pour permettre une mise à jour et un ajout faciles de nouveaux projets. Les nouvelles images doivent simplement être déposées par FTP dans le nouveau dossier automatiquement créé depuis l’interface et zou galinette, c’est en ligne. Fabienne part pour un séjour d’échange à l’étranger et du coup nous avons dû speedé pour finir le site à temps. Il aurait été intéressant d’avoir un ou deux rendez-vous de plus afin d’apporter quelques petites améliorations et fonctionnalités en plus au site, vu qu’il y a toujours des choses qu’on ne voit qu’une fois le site en ligne et devant nos yeux dans notre navigateur. Nous avons donc noté quelques pistes qui devront attendre la prochaine année académique !
Techniquement, nous n’avons pas rencontré de difficultés particulière hormis un détail d’affichage avec un iframe. Celui-ci affichait déjà un rectangle blanc très ennuyant avant de se charger. Grâce à la magie des forums sur internet, nous avons trouvé en moins de temps qu’il le faut pour le dire un “fix” à notre convenance ! Il suffisait de cacher (visibility:hidden) le iframe en arrivant dans la page, et de l’afficher une fois chargé (onload). C’est tout l’intérêt des forums pour les gens qui doivent jongler avec du code, quelqu’un a FORCEMENT déjà eu le même souci, il a trouvé la solution et il l’a publiée sur un forum ou sur un blog!
